Good post, Gunluvver2. I'm also 62 and have ridden over 250K. "United we stand, divided we fall". The Vulcan 900 looks like a sweet ride. Everyone that rides is my bro (or sis) unless they act the fool.

Oh its very easy to understand for the most part... buy a Harley, turn into a weekend warrior. Put on obnoxiously loud fart pipes to be "cool".

All bark, no bite. Anyone with a performance soul laughs their arses off as they drive next to a pack of Harleys, with their ape-hangers and exhaust loud enough to make eardrums bleed. Silly stuff.

I don't ride a Harley, but to be fair, Harley riders aren't all like that. I'm always pleased to see one and not feel it damaging my hearing. I think they sound good if they aren't too loud, but I wouldn't choose a bike because of the way it sounds anyway.

Never said they were. But 9 out of 10 are too loud, too slow, too expensive.

I agree that many are just flat too loud, but slow and expensive don't matter to many people. Expensive may even be considered a badge of affluence by some, therefore a good thing.

Slow and Expensive....

they go fast enough to get a speeding ticket and thern some, not everyone is in a race.

Expensive, yes they are, I would have loved to get one but I like my V star just fine. It is also slow comapredtothe crotch rockets, but I am enjoying myself.

too loud, some are and some arent.

That's a good way of putting it. I like to hold my old scooter WFO once in a while, but there aren't any places around here to really wind it up without taking a big chance on a ticket or having some imbecile pull out in front of me.

Recently came across this video called "Biker Dreams", billed as "a critically acclaimed, revealing and funny chronicle of the Harley-Davidson biker sub-culture in all it's diversity". They included an interview with a yuppie-looking couple from Seattle, decked out in new leathers on their new Harley, and headed for Sturgis:

Gal: "Sittin' on a Harley makes you feel tough!"
Guy: "Yeah, it's kinda an escapism, 'cuz if you want, you can growl at somebody and they'll be scared, even if you're a nice guy!"

So actually, it was "funny" after all...

Yeah, I want to see you 'splain it too, Belinda. I'm really not prejudiced against Harleys (I like just about everything with two wheels and a motor), but your sort of superior attitude intrigues me.
