Who are your top 5 favourite actors and actresses of all time? A tough one, but if you had to narrow it to just 5, who would you choose and what would their best role be?

My 5 favourite leads are:

1. Clint Eastwood. Best role: Unforgiven
2. Hilary Swank. Best role: Million Dollar Baby
3. James Stewart. Best role: Vertigo
4. Samuel L Jackson. Best role: Coach Carter
5. Al Pacino. Best role: Godfather

What about others?
wow. i am a little disturbed to see so many soft choices here. sandra bullock? i mean, i wouldn't call her a heavy!
anyway, don't mean to knock other's opinions, everyone's opinions are like azzholes, and you know the rest.

1. benecio del toro , best role, CHE/21 GRAMS
2. mark ruffalo, best role, YOU CAN COUNT ON ME
3. john cassavetes, just about anything
4. julie christie, AWAY FROM HER
5. gloria swanson, SUNSET BOULEVARD

and really the best is humphrey bogart. give me a break. what a guy! he is the one that shines over all.

John Tuturro, Box of Moonlight, To Live and Die in L.A.
Ryan Gosling, Fracture, Lars and the Real Girl

I don't have a lot of favorites but those two top my list.

I want to add another actor to my list,

Sam Rockwell, Box of Moonlight, Lawn Dogs

Rockwell co-starred with Tuturro in Box of Moonlight. I saw Lawn Dogs last night and kept thinking I'd seen this guy before. IMDB answered that. When it comes to poor white trash, this guy is tops.

For those who like movies and characters outside the norm, I hope you can see those two movies. Lawn Dogs was on a Roku programming channel.

That would be Ed Harris, and he makes my list, too.

Humphrey Bogart - Casablanca
Ingrid Bergman - Notorious
Johnny Depp - Ed Wood
Ed Harris - even though I wasn't crazy about the movie, he was great in A History of Violence
Kate Winslet - Little Children

The hardest part of this exercise is to pick one role for a favorite actor -- they're usually your favorite because of their body of work.

Anthony Hopkins - Almost anything he's been in, but Silence of the Lambs was the best.
Jeremy Irons - Lolita
Alan Rickman - Snow Cake
Jodie Foster - Silence of the Lambs
Jamie Lee Curtis - A Fish Called Wanda

Humphrey Bogard - "Casablanca"
Marilyn Monroe - "Niagara"
Meryl Streep - "Sophie's Choice"
Kate Winslet - "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"
Jim Carrey - "The Truman Show"

1) Meryl Streep (I like them all but I'll select "Bridges of Madison County")
2) Anthony Quinn (oddly enough, I loved him in "Only the Lonely", one of his last films)
3) Morgan Freeman (is "Driving Miss Daisy" character couldn't have been outdone by anyone else)
4) Sophia Loren ("Two Women")
5) Denzel Washington ("Malcolm X" ~ he should have won the Oscar)
