I like the trailers and the synopsis. In the trailers Ben Affleck looks good. Not how he looks, his acting. After Good Will Hunting he seemed to have stumbled a lot, never got the reputation or roles that Matt Damon did. Just didn't seem as good an actor, or didn't have the right face or something about the way he talks.
But lately it seems like he's done some good supporting actor stuff like in
He's Just Not That Into You, State of Play with Russell Crowe and Extract where he played against type for once in a fairly small role (this move made me love Jason Bateman all the more)
Is he coming into his own? I wonder if his age now and maturity is catching up to his looks and mannerisms.
This looks to be an ensemble piece with him as lead. So this will be telling. Maybe he's just not a big lead guy like Damon or Clooney. But can he lead an ensemble piece? Or only do really well in supporting roles.

I look forward to it.

My "claim to fame" ( not) about this movie was that Ben Affleck wanted to film in the appartment we were occupying in Cambridge MA last year as part of our Honeymoon. We were doing a home exchange and the Lady who owned the gorgeous appartment on Monument Square turned the offer down because we were coming. I felt a little guilty I must admit as she must have lost a lot of money... The film crew was in the neighbourhood during our stay and we could look at the filming from our living room. Good fun.

Interesting experience Mousketeer - will give watching the movie a different perspective. He seems like nice guy and a hard worker, I hope it does well.

Gone Baby Gone was excellent all the way around; I think he has a great future behind the camera.

Agree.
And the new film, The Town, is getting good buzz.

This is the only reason I would even consider the film. Gone Baby Gone completely reignited his career. However, I don't think this film will even be able to touch that one.

Jon Hamm was recently on The Daily Show talking about the film--gave a very funny interview in which he talked about filming and the premiere at Fenway. According to Hamm, his character is an FBI-agent that you love to hate, and the crux of the film is that you are rooting for the criminals. While I am impressed by the casting of the film, I wonder how convincing Blake Lively will be as a southie. Moreover, Hamm's performance in the film has not been praised.

I've never liked him as a lead but he's great in smaller parts. Kevin Smith movies come to mind.

We saw "The Town" last night...liked it a LOT. Plenty of action, plus Ben Affleck is sooooo easy on the eyes. I'm a big fan of Jon Hamm on Mad Men, but in this movie, not so much. Blake Lively did a terrific job as the tough-as-nails ex-girlfriend, and Jeremy Renner was amazing (and chillingly scary).

I say, go see it.
