Cool The Best Movie Ever Made!?!?

- This thread is about discussing and debating which ONE movie YOU think is the VERY... VERY... BEST MOVIE EVER MADE.

- I understand this will be hard to narrow down. But please nominate only ONE movie and don't make a list of movies...

Which movie do YOU think is the best movie ever made?

Death in Venice (I always say this one), despite having multiple and very notorious flaws. In my eyes, its flaws make it (more) endearing

There are other movies I could coldly consider better or rounder, but still Morte a Venezia for me.

Once Upon A Time In The West (1969)

Everything Sergio Leone had done previously all comes together. Long, intricate story, excellent acting, long contemplative scenes, gorgeous cinematography.

And you'd never know that all sound effects and dialogue were not recorded during filming but added later in post-production.

Local Hero

There are other films with epic, grand adventures, other films with lush, period costumes, still other films with intricate plots or heart-stopping adventure.

Local Hero doesn't have any of those things.

It does have the occasional random craziness, a subtle but signficant message, breathtaking scenery, and a warm heart.
Oh--and one of the best soundtracks ever.

Definitely one in my top five. As you say a great little gem of a film with a very warm and big heart. And the music is fab. We were just listening to it this evening on our way home from Oxford ! I was thinking of you .
