Ever notice that in some new movies, people are still using traditional answering machines?
They come home and check their messages on a machine. It seems everyone has cell phones nowadays so it's always kind of comical when I see people using machines. I realize though that sometimes a message left on a machine is integral to the storyline.

I still have one and check it every evening when I get home from work.

However, no one has ever tried breaking into my house in order to delete a message they left in a drunken rant the night before and didn't want me to hear it. Or maybe they have and I just didn't know. Hmm...

The script writers need the dramatic device of a message on a machine, so they create a landline in the house of someone who probably would not have a land line.

I still have an answering machine. There are all kinds of benefits. For one thing, it's mine, and not subject to the whims of a corporation.

I still use a machine. Sorry if I'm a 39-year-old old fashioned foagie...I also use non-satellite radios and compact discs.

Yes, but the point of the thread is that people in movies are "beautiful people", and "beautiful people" don't use land lines and answering machines. Unless a plot device requires them to walk into their house with an armload of purchases and drop things because there is an urgent and plot-thickening message on the phone. They also have perfect nails, their car is a Volvo, and there is never any clutter on their kitchen counters or table.

People rarely have a cold in movies. Ever notice that?
