I love the movies but they're getting too damn expensive, and I HATE the fact that we're now subjected to 10 minutes of commercials at a lot of movie theatres prior to watching a film. I love the environment of a movie theatre, the big posters and the flashing white bulbs and the big screen dwarfing the seats and the coming attractions previews and watching something with a large crowd of people, but at the same time, there's a lot of nuisances that come along with it and there's something to be said for sitting in the comfort of your own home, able to control the volume, fast forward, rewind, pause and eat whatever food you want for a fraction of the price.

The end of my rope came with The Two Towers.
  • Though first week in the big theater, was shown in basic stereo, the film wasn't framed properly, and the lamp was old and dim.
  • Three cellphone calls where people actually conversed
  • Guy behind me getting a BJ from his girlfriend
  • The family 2 seats from me actually changed their baby right on the floor of the aisle.
That's it! Now I will only go for movies I really want to see. Order of the Phoenix will be the first movie in a theater for me since Goblet of Fire.

LOL, that's priceless.

When at the age of 7 or so, I saw "Dr. Strangelove", it scared the pants offa me.

The commercials irritate me too, I just paid 9 bucks, you're going to show me advertising?

About 5 years ago, my Dad took my sisters and me to the movies. During he previews, they showed an ad for the Jimmy Fund, for kids with cancer. The ad ended with a plea to give to the Jimmy Fund. Then they brought up the house lights, and theatre employees came down the aisles with cans. They actually passed cans around the theatre! Dad paid $30 for tickets, and now they were asking for donations! We didn't give anything, and we never went back.

OT - But why do we have to endure advertising for Cable TV?

I recall having the same thing done to me, on behalf of the "Will Rogers" foundation. PO'ed me, very much. I didn't give anything, and I don't think Will Rogers would have, either.

Because then every channel would cost as much as HBO or Showtime.

I haven't been to the theater since 'The Perfect Storm'. I have a home theater and have a membership to BlockBuster Online.

I love the movies! I like watching it at home too but I love the whole experience of watching it in a cozy dark room with a bunch of strangers. It can get annoying at times (only when the middle school kids are there in groups) but I kind of like the audience sound effects- especially during scary movies!

I only go to the movies about 1-2 times a year. I don't care much of the kind of movies that are being made these days. It's either always about sex, bad comedy, sick humor, or just disgusting horror (that you can't even eat your popcorn). If there's a true story out, then I go and see it. But that's it, I'm afraid.
