I know he is known for his comedy but Jack Black is over-rated IMO.

I thought I posted in this thread before but I have to go with:

1. Uma Thurman
2. Julianne Moore
3. Matthew Broderick

And I would like to say that at least Keanu Reaves knows what he's capable of and picks movie parts accordingly. Can't say that for the three movie actors above.

seriously, people. the topic is OVER-RATED actors, not WORST actors, non-actors, and overhyped sensational moviestars. you know there is a difference, right?

trying to keep it within their roles and do overrated by income, headlining and seemingly wide appeal

comedic: jack black & ben stiller - i just don't get it with either of them, very narrow ability in characters, often repetative in everything they do and really not that funny

action:
matt damon - although I tend to like his movies, I think a number of others could be there in his place
Val Kilmer
Colin Farrell
Pierce Brosnan

Guys like arnold, segal, the rock, etc are not good actors, but they fit their roles well so i look at them as just serviceable guys

dramatic/mainstream leads:
Cruise - anytime he strays from "cocky guy in exotic profession who learns a life lesson and gets the girl" he's terrible ...... unless you put him in a fat suit and let him drop f bombs
Julia Roberts - annoying with little range
Hugh Grant - really? ....... i mean really?
Angelina Jolie - can't say I've liked a single role she's played

Helen Mirren and Judi Dench are both great actresses. Judi Dench has done mostly stage acting. How do you know could not do a role where they speak "American English"?

Well, I see a lot of movies where I just feel that the lead person isn't really star quality, like Amanda Peet, Jennifer Aniston, Renee Zellweger, maybe Reese Witherspoon, Debra Messing. The male names are not popping in my head ... it's like, when you sort of enjoy someone in a charming role and then you discover that they are dating a supermodel and driving a Maserati and it's like "you're cute, but you're not a superstar!". I actually like Tom Cruise in a lot of his old roles, but *hate* the TomKat thing. Ditto with Brangelina.

Default What's the deal?

Why do so many of the same actors get the star treatment? Katie Holmes was nothing until she became Tom's stepford wife! But the one the baffles me is Drew Barrymore! YUK! Can't act, screwed up face. I'm sure she's a nice person and all.....but beautiful in the moviestar sense....not even a 1/10!!! Her witchypoo chin, strange lopsided lips...plus she always has that look like nothing is going through that noggin of hers. Flakey comes to mind. NOW she's on tv all the time with Cover Girl commercials! I have to shield my eyes so I don't lose my lunch! ECH!

And, I totally agree....Helen Hunt can't act and ALWAYS plays a super *****! And, Catherine Zeta Jones...they treat her like royalty...is it because she has oddles of money because of her husband? If she weren't married to Michael Douglas....she would be a "has been".

And, don't get me started on Ron Howard's brother...what's his name....who should be kissing the ground his brother walks on to have any kind of career.

Phew.....vent over.....for now.
