A Perfect World was excellent; I liked the 1950's/1960's?! setting. Directed by Clint Eastwood.

Glad you liked both Bringing out the Dead & Stay. I'm a huge movie & TV buff, and have a lot of recommendations that I think others on here will like.

To add to my previous list:

The Thin Red Line (1999): Excellent but possibly little-seen WW II film taking place on an island/islands in the Pacific. Very well done.

Red State (2011): Great thriller, and one I hadn't heard about until recently since it was directed by Kevin Smith, who is primarily known for comedies.

Silent Hill (2006?!): This is one of my favorite horror films of the 200X's. A mother & her daughter end up being drawn to the seemingly deserted mining town called Silent Hill. Extremely disturbing, with some fantastic & horrific imagery.

I love this movie - The Reckoning:

The Reckoning (2002) - IMDb

I haven't met many people who have seen it. Willem Defoe is excellent in it. There is also a lot of symbolism in this movie and the use of color is unique and creates imagery and mood that tends to stick with you.

This is an excellent movie! Very evocative emotionally.

If you liked this one, you may also like these four movies, especially the first one:

Black Book (2006) - IMDb

The Nasty Girl (1990) - IMDb

- The Full Monty: This is one of my all time favorite movies, and was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director of 1997, but that was the year of Titanic, so it was way overshadowed. Amazingly, I rarely meet another person who has ever seen it or even heard of it. If they do end up watching it, they love it.
I haven't seen Duplex, but the other two movies are good - not obscure though at all.

Wow, this movie is really weird but I liked it. It'a an Austrian Western, if that makes any sense (and no, it doesn't make all that much sense). The fact that it's so "western" in an almost campy way (but stops just short of being a parody), and the strange setting in some very backwoods Alpine village (that also seems sort of like Deliverance) really makes this movie darkly intense and interesting. Sort of like a combo of Deliverance, Django, and No Country for Old Men.

Das finstere Tal (2014) - IMDb

The Dark Valley (Das Finstere Tal)

Not sure how obscure this movie is but I thought it was really quirky and entertaining:

Black Cat, White Cat. 1999

Over the top excess with some seriously unattractive actors playing gypsies/gangsters. Drugs, sex, some violence and dark slapstick are set in Serbia. I laughed and cringed at he same time, but couldn't stop watching.
