And old Mountain Dew commercial?

Sorry, but that was the only thing that I could think of.

Nebraska (2013) - IMDb

or

The Straight Story (1999) - IMDb

But what you describe sounds almost like a scene from "Slingblade," in which the main character (Billy Bob Thornton) goes back to his childhood home and finds his worthless, derelict father still there.

Could it be any of these (they all have "Top Hat" in the movie):

Billy Elliot (2000) - IMDb

Two Bits (1995) - IMDb

Wrestling Ernest Hemingway (1993) - IMDb

The English Patient (1996) - IMDb

Billy Bathgate (1991) - IMDb

The Truce (1997) - IMDb

Angels in America (TV Mini-Series 2003) - IMDb

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) - IMDb

Love's Labour's Lost (2000) - IMDb

I still think it might be "The Green Mile," because at the end, when Tom Hanks is old and living in a nursing home, he takes his girlfriend somewhere to show her something off the grounds - they sneak away. But all of these movies feature references to or show scenes from "Top Hat."

Good luck!

Is Robert Duvall in it?

yes--I thought about the Duvall movie where he wants to pretend he is dead
but also is like start or end of The Green Mile--
there is shed there where Tom Hank's character goes to see Mr. Jingles who has managed to stay alive for many years afterwards--like Hanks's character who is really much older than he looks...

also Sling Blade--BBT's character goes home and to the shed where his father buried his brother
