I saw the previews and started to read about the plot on wiki.

From the onset, I predicted Rose Byrne's character would be shown in the end as insecure and apologetic.

Well, bull's eye, two paragraphs later.

This is what film makers love to do to sell it to the plain Janes. That attractive fashionistas are weak on the inside. No wonder this movie is a hit.

[quote=LoveBoating;23304849]Ah gee, now you are bashing my favorite tv shows!
Bottom line is, Bridesmaids was terrible and that has already been stated! But, being a Christian is most definitely GREAT!! I'll give that two BIG !!
At my age, can't get the old BP up........I'm done!

Nope, not bashing the show at all. It is a legendary radio and TV show that I respect. I was just pointing out some of the themes or "hidden" themes of the show that I would not consider Christian-like. That was all.

Why is that people are offended the moment someone says he/she's christian? Does the same happen with Islamic and Jewish folks? Oh wait, they are not to be offended.

How the hell, did religion get mixed up in this convo? Jesus H. Christ (really, no pun intended), it was FAR from a porno and it comprised, what, 2-4 minutes of a 2+ hour long movie? It's definitely something that can be fast-forwarded through w/o missing much.

Let's not forget that this is a Judd Apatow movie, the same director who brought us the 40 Year Old Virgin and very pregnant Katherine Higel having sex in different positions w/ Seth Rogen in Knocked Up (oh, and who indirectly brought us many naked penis shots in Forgetting Sarah Marshall)! Odd sex/sexual scenes are his trademarks, as are movies being at least 30 minutes longer than they need to be.

As a side note, I loved Jon Hamm in this flick. IDK, but he irritates me on Mad Men (a lot of things about Mad Men irritate me, but that's for another forum), but outside of that show, he's so funny (loved him in that SNL ksit with Michael Buble!). I'd love to see him in more comedies, especially in a more leading man role.

Perhaps it's b/c the Christian Faith type people have gotten totally SICK of these kinds of movies! Sure we don't have to watch them, that's a given, but they're still being made and (unfortunately) will continue to be made.

And, two other things as well:
To some the scene in this movie would not be like porn, while to others it definitely would be. The folks who don't like, and think porn and nudity/sex in a movie is disgusting would be like that. They need to be heard for their feelings, just like the those that nudity/sex/language in movies don't bother them.
Other thing.....your LANGUAGE in your post......well, enough said.

Oh, for Pete's sake (there, is that language okay with you? ), stop acting so butt hurt!!!! Your ranting is starting to degrade this thread! I'm not going to waste time trying to explain to you what porn actually is since you seem to clearly not know.

I will say one thing to you because I think enough have been said already and you really are starting to derail this topic: I've come across many reviews and critics that are geared towards parents that breakdown movies beyond the MPAA ratings (e.g., whether a PG-13 rating means the movie has a lot of foul language, some nudity, sexual content, etc) sine these ratings are rather broad. I have ZERO doubt that, if you did some leg work, you could find the same geared towards sensitive Christians like yourself that would allow you carefully decide what movie to watch. Do yourself a favor and read those movies so you don't come across any more "nasty" surprises in the future.

Until you put in the legwork, just stop watching R rated movies, especially comedies. The raunchiness of this movie should have come as a surprise to no one who knew what they were getting-a Judd Apatow R rated comedy. Ask yourself if there was anything from the movie posters below that cried out "wholesome, Christian tale for the whole family"? We're not talking about Veggie Tales here, for Christ's sakes (oops, there goes that pesky language )

Lots of people enjoyed this movie, the people that didn't had other reasons for not liking it, and really, you're the first person I've seen on multiple forums/sites to whine and moan this much about less than 5 minutes of the content. Have issues about the state of movies coming out? Take it up w/ Hollywood or go bankroll a Christian production studio and only watch those sort of movies. Or at the very least, go start your own thread about it and stop hijacking this one. You've been intent on pushing this so-called issue since you posted while others were just calmly discussing their opinions of the movies. You seen intent on calling this porn when others have disagreed with you and said it wasn't, and even had the gall to criticize those who watched the movie. Whining about it on this thread is less than pointless. I know plenty of religious people, many in my own family, that don't watch these sort of movies, but they don't go on to berate the people that do as you have on this thread.

Since you obviously didn't like the movie and have said why, I guess there's no reason for you to stick around this thread.

Boy, I thought people sounded/got NASTY in some other forums, but you are doing a good job as well! For the language that some folks say is one of the reasons why I say I judge people. My wife totally understands and does the same. I think we'd better "agree to disagree" on this.

And, as far as sticking around in this Thread..........it's a FREE country and even Christian folks have a RIGHT to speak up for what they like and don't like!! And, by the way, who is ranting........simple stating the truth and facts about this movie and some others.

I consider myself a Christian and almost a boomer ~ my birthdate puts me right on the cusp.

I really enjoyed this movie; though I wouldn't want to watch it with my teen-age son OR really want him to watch it.

"R" movies are most likely going to have some sex, foul language, or violence (or all three) and I'm well aware of that when I rent the thing.

One could pretty much tell from the previews that there was going to be some 'bathroom humor'. That was my least favorite scene, BTW.

Loveboating, you should see her other movie MacGruber, where the dude bangs both these women one in the house and the other in the graveyard.

That's the thing. We're all on the interweb, so if you're the kind of person who's concerned about how a movie will jibe with your value system, you can very easily Google it and read some reviews before you go ahead and buy a ticket or put the movie in your Netflix queue. If you're an informed consumer, then you won't have to clutch your pearls as often.
