Sorry to dig up an old thread, but just rented this. Other than the big kid being a reference to George Lucas and the little one Spielberg, and a few toss off insider jokes, I was majorly disappointed - even if it was a kids film. A misunderstood monster that eats townspeople for snacks when he runs out of military rations, while his Lego blocks that he made into a spaceship go into seizures and hump water towers? Lights go on and off for no particular reason? Silence of the Lambs meets Poltergeist, Alien ET meets the Goonies, via a train wreck on steroids? The science teacher should have been Dr. Richard Kimball, and given Dryfuss the keys back to his truck from E.T. before he crashed it. Stephen I love you, but that "film" was a total waste of a rental.

I like your long, elegant wording 'cause I would just state that it was a crappy movie, period. I think the other movies are so much crappier that people thought this movie was actually good.
