Does anyone recognize this movie and know the title. It's about a rich white family with a small child (maybe 8 yrs old) and the black maid that lives with them. The maid has a child fathered by a white man. The child is light skinned and can pass for a white woman. She grows up and moves away from her mother to become a hollywood singer and lies about her heritage...passing herself off as white. She never sees her mother again, until her mother's funeral.
I saw this as a young teen and I'm in my 50's now, so it's been awhile. Don't know any actor names. Can you help?

Sandra Dee was in that film, also Lana Turner.
I think it was called "Imitation of Life"

first Lana Turner movie I ever saw and then my grandma started talking about how she (Lana Turner) was involved with a mob guy in real life and that her daughter cheryl killed him . My grandma used to say what a tragic thing to happen to such a beautiful woman (Lana Turner ) .

I watched it last night (long movie) and enjoyed it not knowing that the last scene especially will require the kleenex box to be in handy.
Thanks OP and pekemom!
