And believe me, all those movies of the summer look like movies compared to this.

YouTube - ‪The Smurfs Movie Trailer 3 Official (HD)‬‏

truly, truly shameful, the CGI is horrible, the actors are truly wasted here even the smurfs are terrible, they look like playdo dolls.

With the costs of movies these days, movie studio execs will only greenlight big-budget films if they're based on something that was already popular at one point--like Harry Potter or comic books or old TV shows. So name recognition from 80s nostalgia is all they can come up with for the most part, which is why you get GI Joe, Transformers, and yes, now the Smurfs.

But hey, they're also making Battleship into a movie. That's Battleship the board game---being made into a movie.

But Even GI Joe and Transformers had better styles, this smurfs will not be a disgrace to peyo, but hanna-barbera, they are rolling in their graves as we speak.

And it's gonna be directed by the same person who ruined scooby doo and the dreadful home alone 3

this is a disgrace to not only the late peyo clifford, but hanna-barbera and executive producer freddy monnickendam as well

Shame on columbia pictures and sony pictures animation for pushing soon to be piece of junk down our throats.

I'm sticking to the original cartoon series, it had a message and honest issues.

It does look terrible. But the worst of the 21st century??? C'mon. Have you seen the G.I. Joe movie? The Dungeons & Dragons movie? Deuce Bigalow? Catwoman? Battlefield Earth? Glitter? Gigli? The Adventures of Pluto Nash? Corky Romano? Any movie with Paris Hilton?

The Smurfs are going to have to be naked cannibals for it to be worse than any of those movies.

But this is just horrible, even the G.I. joe movie looked better than this, it's just horrible and it's painful, come on one of the smurfs shaking it's ass, truly horrible, one of the worst movies of the 21st century no doubt about it, next to the rest of them pieces of junk that you mention

If the late peyo and hanna-barbera were alive today they would be stunned.
even though the flintstones movie was no masterpiece but it was compared to this.
and this is from the same director who gave us the awful big momma's house and the terrible scooby doo franchise
and believe me, katy perry's just as bad as paris hilton.

I saw the G.I. Joe movie. I want those 2 hours of my life back. At least with the Smurfs movie, it's so obviously horrible that I know better than to try to watch it.

See, but here's the thing. I was a kid an avid Saturday morning cartoon viewer during the height of Smurfs popularity. And I can tell you that this movie is not so much a travesty because it's taking something good an ruining it, because the Smurfs were never good.

Lots of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons are classic and still hold up quality-wise today. Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Jonny Quest (a masterpiece!), and Scooby Doo: Where Are You? (one of the greatest cartoons ever).

But the Smurfs? Nah. Bad now. Bad then. In fact, Hanna-Barbera didn't really do anything good after the late 1970s.

The Smurfs cartoon really helped save hanna-barbera, NBC and cartoons from extinction, if not for the smurfs, we wouldn't have transformers and stuff.
And believe me, this movie version is gonna be an even bigger travesty then G.I. Joe has ever done, come on rude humor and the CGI is really bad in this, the original animation is million miles better than this mess, these CGI Smurfs look like playdo dolls, this is an absolute travesty, but the 1980's cartoons still hold up more quality then the junk you see today, most of the cartoons of today with the exception of spongebob squarepants are just plain godawful and should never be mention in the same sentence, at least the cartoon smurfs had substance.
this movie version coming up has none of the substance and heart of the comic strip and cartoon series.
it's a joke.
