Natalie Portman is great and all, but that story sucked. The end wasn't a shocker like I think it was supposed to be, it was more like "oh, yeah, that's what I figured... thank God it's over". She kept ripping up her cuticles and picking pine trees out of her skin or whatever that was... they even made a girl-on-girl scene seem boring which is hard to do. They act like it's some kind of thriller when it's nothing more than watching some chick go crazy. And I've probably known girls crazier than that. And then it gets all those awards... whatever.
The Hangover-This poor re-write of Very Bad Things was just not funny. At all. I can't believe a sequel was made, and people paid money to watch the exact story over again. The Matrix-Boring and I just can't take Keanu seriously. Inception-I didn't really hate this one, but I thought it was overplayed and rather boring. And I think Ellen Page is a really, really lousy actress. Where the Wild Things Are-That Max was such a horrible little brat. Schindlers List-Overtly sentimental Spielberg story that downplayed how Schindler profited off the war and the Holocaust.
I only say bits of "The Matrix" and still wanted to run away as quickly as my legs would allow !! Which granted is not that fast but heck I would have crawled on my belly just to avoid it, had I not been stuck on a plane. I don't hate Keanu Reeves neither do I like him, I do find him wooden in most roles and OK in others. He seems to play himself mostly like many actors.
"Where the Wild things are" was excruciating. Like you I thought Max the worst little brat and and could not understand why anyone would give a toss about this spoilt unpleasant selfish little toad. And he gets rewarded with Chocolate cake at the end !?!?! Nice moral there. He made me want to throw something at the screen.
"Schindler's list" as you state seemed an overblown sentimental re-interpretation of History. I only saw it recently and it was as I expected of Spielberg who can often lay it on with a trowel when it comes to mawkishness. Mietek Pemper IMO was the true hero of this story and a man who deserves to be known a little more. His massaging of statistics and invaluable talents of persuasion and bureaucratic analysis allowed him to preserve the lives of thousands of Jewish people. Mietek Pemper - Telegraph. There would have been no list for Schindler if it had not been for Mietek Pemper.
Schindler saved thousands of lives but profited from the war and the holocaust as you mention and was a pretty dismal individual by all accounts on a personal basis too.
So many films though seem hugely popular and to me look like the worst trash produced... I keep looking at the list of movies at my local mainstream cinemas and it makes my eyes water so awful they are. How anyone can sit through two hours of some of the stuff on offer is beyond me.
I must admit I really loved Ellen Page in "Juno" ( and loved the film). I did not notice her performance in "Inception" as I think I was catatonic from boredom by the time she came on the screen ! Two hours of my life I shall never have again. So much for hype again.

I thought she was that fake smart alec teenager who knows nothing but talks like she's a sarcastic sage. Unfunny, overhyped film. I think Page is a good actress, but the movie was a waste of my time.

those were actually black feathers as she was turning into the "black swan"
Don't get me wrong, I like Mandy Moore. Just not in this movie.
Does that count as a movie everyone loves? I've never even heard of it. Some teen movie? I was thinking more of movies that most of the population loves, and that make the lists of greatest movies ever, and that people always say are their favorites, but that you hate.
Eastern Roamer--I agree about Black Swan. I had HUGE hopes for this movie, usually I don't get into the hype of a movie because that usually means that I won't like it but I got caught up in it & it happened again, I rented it & was sorely disappointed. It just was not worthy of a Best Picture win, sorry. And I'm not even sure Natalie's performance was worthy either but I had only seen a couple of the movies w/Best Actress noms so I only had a couple performances to compare it to. I love Natalie Portman but this movie just didn't do it for me. And it wasn't scary or a thriller in the least, at least I didn't think it was.
Star Wars... any of them. I don't see what's lovable about them all. I find them rather boring.
