I'm pretty picky about what movies I rent, and still, I find myself glad I spent 1 1/2 or more only about 25% of the time. After renting or going to the movies, how often are you glad you spent time and money watching it ? Maybe I'm not a movie person, or not easily impressed, but I'm definitely gun shy on renting just anything these days.
I'm mostly satisfied when I rent or go to the movies. To me, going to the movies is a lot more fun because depending on the genre, the entire audience will react to it.
But on the otherhand, it's also fun to sit around the livingroom and enjoy a movie with your family.
Renting or going to the cinema is totally worth it to me.
before i rent a movie i usually check the ratings on rotten tomatoes or somewhere. I dont care what the critics say. I care more about the actual audience. If they say its horrible i probably wont bother with it.
Even if you don't particularly like a movie, if it makes you think about a certain issue, or even help you to narrow down what actors/directors/genres you prefer to make better choices in the future, than it's not a waste of time. It's a movie, after all. And what with sites like Rotten Tomatoes and imdb, it's less and less necessary that you have to go into a movie blind, without knowing what it's about or what others think of it.
I NEVER go to the movie theater as I get easily annoyed by other people either sitting too close when there's an almost enpty theater & plenty of other seats to choose from, tall people sitting in front of me, the talkers, etc. It's too much of an annoyance. So anyway, now that my local Blockbuster closed I get all my movies from Netflix so if I watch a dud, let's say like "The Last Exorcism", it doesn't matter to me. Besides, I like watching a lot of movies, even if many of them are seriously bad.....except for the movie "Scream" from 1981. That movie was so laughably awful I had to turn it off after like 1/2 hour, lol.
