No, I decided that I won't see it. I'm tired of having images from movies override the images in my head.

Yes, very much so.

First, I always enjoyed The Hobbit more than The Lord of the Rings.

Second, I don't share that "But! But! It wasn't faithful enough to the book!" hangup. I understand that films are completely different creatures than novels, and reworking -- even significant reworking -- of the underlying story to fit the medium does not bother me.

Side note -- I love the 1977 Rankin/Bass film. I find the simple animation wonderfully appropriate, the songs delightful, and tone nicely dark much of the time (not made too cheery in a misguided attempt to make it more kid-friendly, and the muted colors nicely evocative of Middle Earth.

YES. I can't wait. Peter Jackson has done a wonderful job directing and producing the movie. I saw the trailer online last week and got even more excited. It's been a while since I read the books too so I might have to bust them out again. Count me in as one of the first fans in line!

I hope it's awesome, but I was very disappointed in the trailer. The dwarves are supposed to be grim northern warriors. In the trailer they look way too Lollipop Guild.

I love rumors like that very much ... I hope it's real too, the rumor that is, not the dragon
