This morning when I ran across this thread was the first I've heard of this new movie....and for a moment I was excited. Because the 1951 original of the same name was one of two sci-fi films made that year that remain at the top of my list of the best ever. The other, of course, was Michael Rennie's original version of The Day the Earth Stood Still.

But I quickly remembered what was done to the 1951 masterpiece in The Day the Earth Stood Still's 2008 remake and read further and found this new film is based on the 1982 remake, which bore little resemblance to the 1951 classic.

So much for excitement.
Yeah, and they really messed up the re-make of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" One of my all time favorites was "Forbidden Planet." Its special effects are still phenomenal, even today - especially the "Monster from the Id."

I would love to see Forbidden Planet again. It has been so long that, quite honestly, I can't say for sure that I even saw the entire movie. I only remember short bits and pieces. But yeah, I know it is held in very high regard and I'm sure is leaps and bounds better than today's stuff.

Thanks for the reminder. I am going to put it in my DVR to keep an eye out for it on the cable channels.
