"My friend is insane about that movie!"

I am insane about that movie! I agree with OP on choices and would like to add:

Die Hard - can't help it AND
The Sound of Music

Just not Christmas without em!

At Christmas... an old (1983 or something like that) made for TV movie called "The Gathering." It starred Ed Asner and Maureen Stapleton. Kind of dated, but still an excellent movie.

A Christmas Story-you'll put your eye out! And Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation.
At Easter it was The Ten Commandments and The Wizard of Oz.
OK these are not movie's but TV shows I just thought I'd share because I loved them and looked forward to watching them every year:
When I was a kid it was all the Peanuts holiday shows and the other kid ones like Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

Christmas Vacation is always a must. Uncle Eddie makes so much more sense now that Randy Quaid is actually nuts.
