Hollywood studios are now reluctant to green light any new creative and imaginative scripts that may risk failure, and especially if they have significant budgets.

Hence, if they can recycle the same old tripe that has been successful in the past they will.

The studios, at least at this particular time, are not interested in laurels and credit for turning out creative and great new films-----they just want to make their investment back plus a profit and hence they are unwilling to gamble on solely creativity. Its a vicious cycle that produces boring sequels with buildings blowing up all over the place, and robot machines ruling the universe---oh yeah, and fast cars zooming all over the place.

I'm warning you Hollywood, just stop it...We'll let have another Karate Kid or A-Team film, but don't try to remake any of the above films with Shia LeBeouf or the Jonas Brothers.

+ pretty much any of John Hughes' movies
Karate Kid remake was terrible.

Agreed. This is from that link which the Lionsgate President said:
Quote:
"Amazingly it has been almost 25 years since the original film was released, but the fans remain legion and engaged more than ever with a brand that is special and vital to them," Lionsgate film group president Joe Drake said in a statement.
"We believe that the timing couldn't be better to modernise this story on the big screen, and we are proud to have Kenny Ortega at the helm.
In plain English, this is exactly what I said about milking the "tried and true" scripts instead of taking a chance with a new, unbankable one.
All that BS about "We believe that the timing couldn't be better to modernise...blah blah" is nothing more than saying "We believe we can make a ton more by re-packaging this popular product (he he he)"

Movie-making is borderline despicable these days! That is why I love the Indies. Thank you Mr. Redford!

Maybe. That rumor has been haunting the area for at least 3 years. I'll believe it when I see the cameras rolling.

Don't forget the upcoming new "Bill & Ted" movie, Keannu Reeves and Alex Winter are both back as Bill & Ted; personally, two guys in their 40s going "dude" and "bogus!" a lot seem unrealistic to me. I mean, like dude, that's just bogus!

Conan the barbarian is the latest. See no real need to remake it, but I guess someone thinks they can make a few bucks.

I've heard they've wanted to Ghostbusters 3 for a while, but Bill Murray's lack of interest kept holding the project up. Looks like the plot will be the old Ghostbusters training a new generation of Ghostbusters. Meh...

Wow... I didn't know about that one. Maybe they can go back in time and try to figure out what happened to Alex Winter's career? Where's that guy been for the last 20 years?

Or maybe Bill and Ted can be be middle-aged politicians who have to deal with a totally bogus deficit problem and have to travel back in time to figure out where all the federal debt came from. "Whoa, you mean we can't raise the debt ceiling again?"

But who's gonna fill George Carlin's shoes now that he's passed on?

I agree. Jesus. The only remakes I think I ever liked were "True Grit" and "Cape Fear." But I generally don't care for them. Most movies should simply be left alone.
