The Freddy and Jason movies were re-done a while ago too. Whenever I hear of yet another movie that I watched while growing up being remade I cringe because I think that it kind of takes something away from the original. my generation had Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers for our movie bad guys, let the kid today have their own! No one will ever say "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" the way Patrick Swayze (RIP) did.
good point. this should be the golden rule of a movie remake:

IT HAS TO BE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL.

CGI, and hot young actors DO NOT accomplish this.

other than that, it should be a movie that could have been good, but was flawed.

the one movie that comes to mind as a good candidate for a remake is 1983's made for TV movie, The Day After. i mean, come on! Robards, Lithgow, Gutenberg? the acting sucked, the musical score is BRUTAL. but it is a good IDEA for a movie. what if the Cold War did turn Hot? oh, and there would have been NO SURVIVORS in the Kansas City area. there are a LOT of targets (missile silos) in that area.

I think a lot of this remake crap has to do with people that grew up in the 80's being in control of these projects and wanting to make the younger generation see what they saw growing up, but like u said, it ruins the original..Kinda like the new Karate Kid..that movie ruined the Karate Kid name...

Don't think they could pull it off.
