Dude, if you are going to resurrect an old thread, be aware that 3-D in the form of stereoviews pre-dated color film by years, and was used in early analog cinema as well, especially in France and Russia.

It was interesting seeing the Star Wars episode in 3-D. The understanding of it as a motion picture medium is getting better. There are scenes where the depth is compressed to just a few levels, and others where it is expanded briefly for the "pop" effect. Overall, it is much better than it was a few years ago.
As an aside, there are only about 30 3-D "planes" in an image that can be discerned by the average viewer. People can mentally fill in from as few as 3 or 4 planes to THINK they are seeing full 3-D for brief periods, giving the eyes a chance to rest.
