The movie The Big Year is supposed to be released on October 14. I'm wondering how many theaters, how big a release, will it be here, will it be on TWC in preview etc. I can't seem to find any specific information.

Is it out there or should I quit looking?
How far ahead do they start promotions?

Its got a big magnet cast and will probably have a big opening.
Personally, based on Marley and Me and the trailer I'm thinking David Frankel absolutely wrecked the book. Which of course Hollywood could care less about and means nothing except to people who loved the book.

Box office mojo usually has a lot of that information, but I am not sure how far ahead of release it comes out.

Box Office Mojo

After checking that particular movie that don't have any real info yet. Not much help. All it said was it was a wide release.

I expect a minimum of 3,00 screens, which means a wide release.

By comparison, the sensational film 'Moneyball', starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Robin Wright & Phillip Seymour Hoffman, opened on 2,993 screens over this past weekend with a solid boxoffice take of $19.5 million in what turned out to be the highest grossing weekend ever in the month of September, a boffo $112,000,000+ for the top 20 grossing films of the past weekend.

Consequently a similar release pattern for 'The Big Year' would not be a surprise under any circumstances.

I don't think I've seen the stars on the talk show circuit yet, not sure how when in terms of before that usually happens. Honestly I expect they've ruined the book but as a birdwatcher I have to see it anyway!
