i have yet to see a movie thats better then the book! usually im disapointed with the movie, either i didnt like the cast or the slight changes it always seems to bother me. so...has anyone?
I don't think I've ever read a book that was turned into a movie. Except Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, in which case the book and movie were equally terrible.
I liked the filmed version of The English Patient better than the book.
I also preferred the latest Harry Potter movie (Order of the Phoenix) better than its original written version.
However, this does not happen very often.
Usually I am disappointed.
Sometimes I don't even bother to see the movie.
I read John Grisham's book 'A painted house' some time back . I loved the book, every character and every scene from it is still fresh in my mind. Watched the movie , but didnt like it at all. It somehow seemed very fast and just a very rough sketch of what was in the book. The book is much much better..

thats how i usually feel about books! that they just leave so much out and it always seems too rushed! one movie that i thought was pretty close to the book was girl with a pearl earring. In the book she straight out tells you how she feels, in the movies you kinda have to guess but she way scarlet johanasson (sp?) was amazing! so much silence but so full of feeling!
I also prefer the books to the movies. It's given that the movies have to be different from the books because while reading you use your own fantasy and in the movies you see the fantasy of somebody different. The movies coming close to the books I really liked were all the Harry Potter parts and also the Lord of the Rings (even if it was slightly different than the book).
I also enjoyed the books of Henning Mankell, a Swedish crime writer and I couldn't bring myself to watching the movies because the main character just looks different than I imagined.
So I'll stick to the books and also to books on CD.

Movie adaptations of books can never "live-up" to the book due to limitations of the medium.
Book fans will never be completely satisfied by a movie version of their favorite book (me included), but movie versions can sometimes be great or at least enjoyable if judged simply as a movie.
Personally, I can't stay away from movie versions of books that I love, just 'cause I'm always curious about how filmmakers will choose to adapt the book.
