The first one is hands-down one of the best action movies ever made.
I've never been able to sit through all of the second one.
The third one was lots of fun.
The fourth one was a joke.

First one = great (obviously): Such a defining movie of the 80's and filled to the brim with 80's stereotypes. The fat cop, the incompetent higher ups, Japanese businessmen in America, etc.
Second one = slightly less great: No shortage of great lines and action, especially the John Woo lift/homage. It couldn't live up the first one, although the ending was frickin' awesome. As its own movie it would've been great. As a sequel, it was just OK.
Third one = Meh: I didn't hate it as much as some people but I can't say as it was all that good. Stretches believability way past the breaking point. The other two seemed liked documentaries compared to WAV.
Also, very poor lines such as "Who does she think she is, Hilary Clinton?" Part of the problem is the script was originally written as a entry in the Lethal Weapon series and they just plugged in different characters.
Fourth one = 3rd best in the series. Also stretched believability way past the breaking point but did so shamelessly and never looked back. WAV expected you to take it seriously, but LFDH was just light hearted. My favorite part was when Apple looked at JM and said "how can you be so calm, have you done this before?". The response was just a sly grin.
Now, I think the most important question about Die Hard 5 is who will be the "random" character? He will join the ranks of Argyle, Marvin, the gay truck driver and Kevin Smith as a lynchpin to the film's plot.

If they want to replace the actor. Otherwise, what would be the plot? Let me guess, John McClain takes on the staff at the retirement home because they put sweetener in his iced tea. I mean come on. He's getting a bit too old to be making these kinds of movies..That's just my take. But the original did rock..

NO! If they replace Bruce Willis then it would be just another action flick.
He's only 56, for goodness' sake and still in killer shape! Clint Eastwood was older than that in The Dead Pool.

Yeah, but Clint never rapelled off skyscrapers or tackled fighter jets in mid-air.

This last one, Live Free or Die Hard, was 4 so the new one will be 5

Absolutely. I liked them in this order:
Original
Number 2
Number 4
Number 3 (didn't care for this one as much as the others but I can't figure out why)
