"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" is the funniest, clean movie of all time. Laughed all the way through it. I think all the best comedy writers like Mel Brooks, etc. wrote it.
A lot of funny movies now depend on bathroom humor. They are only funny for awhile, then get old.
"Airplane" the first two times -- after that, I knew all the one-liners, so it wasn't that funny.
My other all-time favorite comedies that I can watch over and over again are "A Good Year," "Music and Lyrics", and "Fever Pitch", although these all have a huge element of romance and some drama, too.
I am just not much of a slapstick fan, I guess, although come to think of it, I did like "George of the Jungle" with Brendan Fraser.
Humor is subjective. I've tried to like "Spinal Tap" but just find it incredibly boring. "MMMMM World" is ok, but not up to the hype, for me.
For me:
"Airplane" was probably the greatest satire movie of all time. After "Airport" and the variations, it was perfect.
Parts of "Annie Hall" are priceless. "I just happen to have Marshall McLuhan right here..." "I'm into leather."
"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" - A particular type of lasting humor. As a projectionist, when I first screened it and saw the Intermission come up mid-movie in a 90m film, I was like WTF!?!?! The credits alone had me in stitches.
"Young Frankenstein" "Put zee candle BECK!"
"Harvey" and "Arsenic and Old Lace" and "Bringing Up Baby" Good screwball comedy.
"Zonad"
slipping into television - "Black Books" - brilliant, especially the first episode.
