Movie theater vs. Waiting for the DVD release...
Would you rather go to the movie theater to enjoy a flick, or would you rather wait until is is released to dvd to see it.

Depends on how excited I am to see the movie, and what kind of movie it is.
If word of mouth and reviews are so-so, and I am not that thrilled about a movie to begin with, I might wait for DVD.
There was no way I was going to wait for the Bourne Ultimatum on DVD--it looked like a great movie to see in a theater, ditto Harry Potter.
Living where I do, we hardly get any indie movies.
So sometimes, even though I am unwilling, I have to wait for a DVD.

Depends on the movie. I like to watch some movies on the big screen, action movies, sci-fi, anything with cool special effects etc.
Drama or comedy i'd rather watch at home.

A lot of action movies I will watch in the movie theatre. I have to say though, most romantic and comedies I wait until it's out on DVD with the exception of a few actors I like or movies that seem really good. Drama is on the fence - it just depends on the plot and if it's something I deem "worthy" of a movie theatre ticket price.

I haven't been to a movie theater in a couple of years, so 99% of the time I wait until it's out on DVD.
I am very picky about movies now also, so I won't go out and get any movie that's out there.

Good question, as I was just thinking about this the other day when I saw the recent movie "Blades of Glory" already out on DVD for rent. Have you notice how small and cruddy the screens are at the local Cinemaplax 25 Theaters, are? They are not worth the hassle. No more wide screen, panarama, vista vision....Unless you watch it at home. Who needs to go out and fight the crowds, noise & other crappola? be comfy at home; rewind when you dont hear a line, pause for the potty breaks, and snax, right?
OMG, I realize that some movies are crummy and the big money for Producers these days can be recouped in video-rentals, right?
I am NOT that despererate to see any movie to pay $10 to be irritated by the audience talking to the screen, while my feet stick to the floor eating a $8 box of candy, a $5 soda, and then it turned out to be the best part of the movie....the expensive snacks!
Straight from the cutting room floor to the neighborhood Blockbuster is the way we're going. Since everyone I personally know, has a huge Home Theater, including myself. I still enjoy my good old 12 yr. old projection (big screen) tv. I get plenty of cinematography with that, thank you very much.

I generally much prefer to see films in cinemas, as I like the experience but I tend to only go to art-house cinemas now as the multi- screen places just are too much on the "hard-sell" and I loathe having to sit through half and hour of adverts and previews. Smaller cinemas are much nicer, the popcorn and drinks are way cheaper, and there is so much less commercialization. I enjoy it much more.
I also like renting DVDs but I don't think they do justice to the bigger movies with special effects or sumptuous sets and costumes. I also adore going to see old classics at the movies. Casablanca or Citizen Kane are worthy of a big screen.

I also have to say it depends on the movie. Not just the type of movie it is but also how much I'm anticipating the movie. Something I've been waiting for for a while I'll go see at the theater.. stupid movies (like most of whats out there now) I wait for the DVD or dont even bother at all.

Well, it depends on if it is a movie the whole family can see and if it is something that looks good enough to not wait until it comes out on DVD. It also depends on if I have the money to cart 4 kids and hubby an hour into town, eat at least one meal out, pay for tickets and snacks. I especially like seeing good family type movies around the holidays.
