I've tried watching this movie lots of times but just can't get the appeal. I know how to appreciate older movies (Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Caine Mutiny, etc.) by applying an expectation filter to them but RWAC just escapes me.

Can anyone explain? Please don't turn this into a slamfest of old movies vs. newer movies, I really want to know what people see in this film.
