Default Please Help Me Remember a Movie

I was telling my wife about a movie this morning, but couldn't remember the title or actors/details. I'm not sure if it was a film, or made for TV movie. It was probably made in the 70's-80's. It was based on a true story about a woman who was a forgotten patient in a mental institution. I think she may have been catatonic. One of the doctors or staff sensed that the patient was cognizant of her environment and started spending time with her to try and connect. Gradually the patient became more and more responsive until she was finally cured and left the institution. As a matter of fact, I think during the closing credits it was mentioned that she was appointed appointed to a high ranking government position dealing with mental health care, etc. Is anyone familar with this and knows the title? I would love to see this again, but not successful in Googling it out so far. Thanks in advance for your help with this.

Possibly:

Nobody's Child (TV 1986) - IMDb

Marlo Thomas as Marie Balter a true story.

You may also like "The Bell Jar" with Marilyn Hassett as Sylvia Plath, poet. Made in the 70's a much better film than the recent one with Paltrow.
