Didn't know there have been many earthquake movies made? Descent is more of a cave expedition, scary movie, I would not call it an "earthquake" movie.

2012 is the closest I can think of, but then again, that had more than earthquake, it had full-blown apocalypse.....

2012 was terrible. I was just looking at this list and descent is the best movie off of it IMO

Earthquakes

Haha, never said 2012 was the best, just pointed out that is the only earthquake film I could think of !!

Thanks for the list, I had no idea there were so many! I still don't agree Descent is an earthquake movie, although I do think it is a great movie .... I will check out some of the others in the list .

The 1974 film was only so-so, but the sensurround made it a lot more fun.

I think its easier to ask what is the best disaster movie. More to choose from so you will get more opinions.

Yes, thank you, that's much better, now you have opened up a whole new world , and that also proves my earliest point that not many movies have been made about "earthquakes" in particular !!

Now, for disaster movies, I found a nice little list on about.com:

Best Disaster Movies - Top 10 Disaster Movies

I don't personally agree on every single movie in the list being "top/best"...for instance, I found "Outbreak" disappointing for whatever reason. Also, I wonder, are "post-apocalyptic" movies (where the disaster has ALREADY taken place) included in this category?? My favorite disaster and/or post-apocalyptic movies have to be (not necessarily in the following order):

1. War of the Worlds (disaster/alien invasion, Dakota Fanning was annoying as hell with the nerve-wrecking screams though!!)

2. The Book of Eli (post-apocalyptic, and one of Denzel's best!!)

3. WaterWorld (post-apocalyptic, what a fantastic movie, and Kevin Costner rocks!!!! If I had to pick ONE favorite, this would be it!!)

4. The Day After Tomorrow (disaster)

5. I am Legend (post-apocalyptic/do zombie movies count?)

6. Zombieland (post-apocalyptic/do zombie movies count?)

7. 28 Days Later (post-apocalyptic/do zombie movies count?)

8. Resident Evil series (post-apocalyptic/do zombie movies count?)

9. The Dawn of the Dead (post-apocalyptic/do zombie movies count?)

The above are some of my favorites, their are plenty others of course. I was digging around a bit more on Google and found this fantastic wiki entry that you might enjoy skel1977 !!

Good list but I think that is off. Even though disaster falls under apocalyptic, i think there should also
be a seperate category or thread for apocalyptic movies which brings me to another point. There should
be another category for zombie movies
