I knew you were good people, , I'd love to see those pics with John Wayne.

My favorite John Wayne movies are:

1. The Searchers
2. The Quiet Man
3. Donovan's Reef
4. How The West Was Run (he only had a cameo in this one)
5. A Lady Takes A Chance
6. Hell Fighters
7. McClintock
8. The Alamo

There are others but those listed are my favorites. Why are they my favorites? Because these movies had a great story and contained actors who knew how to act and weren't just the latest pretty face. This is why I quit watching a lot of new movies. There are no more writers in Hollywood and for the most part the people in the movies today should never be called actors they are just the latest flavor of the month. Give me older actors who knew what they were doing.

I would have to agree.

See many of my very favorites listed here:
The Quiet Man
The Searchers
True Grit
Rooster Cogburn
The Shootist
Fort Apache
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
Stagecoach
Flying Tigers

Four excellant films that I didn't see mentioned before:
They Were Expendable
The Angel and the Badman
The Shepherd of the Hills
3 Godfathers

I just a wonderful program (on PBS, I think) about John Wayne and his relationship with John Ford and the movies they made together. I think much of what we see in Wayne as the quintessential hero is due to the evolving view of Ford as he explored patriotism and war, sentimentality, and faith as well the classic conflicts of man against man, man against nature, and man against himself.

My favorite is The High and the Mighty because it's a good character study.

The Searchers is one of my favorites because I like the story and I like the theme song.

He did himself proud in True Grit. I had read the book but was not expecting much from the movie. Boy, was I wrong.
