I always like "The Great American 4th of July". It was written by Jean Shepard (A Christmas Story) and we recorded off the Disney Channel back in the 80s. Our family loved it and i wish they would release it.

The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters (1982) (TV)

"Gulag" a movie about an American journalist set up for a crime and sent to a Russian gulag... mid 80s I believe. I have to rent the VHS because that's all there is.

The World, the Flesh and the Devil. 1959, Harry Belafonte. Miner Ralph Burton (Belafonte) is trapped in a mine for a few days (I'm not sure of the exact time). When he emerges, he finds the world has been completely depopulated (not even any corpses) and he is the only one left. This is one of those films I will always stop to watch when it's on (which is VERY rarely), since I can't find it on DVD or even on tape.

The Omega Man (1971) and 28 Days Later (2002) have both done variations of the theme (I'm sure there are others as well) but I feel The World, the Flesh and the Devil did it better than any other. Too bad not many people are familiar with TWtFatD and think 28 Days Later is a totally original story. Don't get me wrong, I loved that movie and felt it was particularly well done, but it wasn't the first .

Would I love to get a copy of that flick!

Hmmm... point missed by some distance. It's a satire. The script was co-written by Richard Prior (who, if you remember is black). Mel Brooks proved with Blazing Saddles that he was an egalitarian when it came to making fun of people, regardless of skin colour or religious persuasion: where blacks may come off as stereotypical, whites are seen as just plain stupid and ignorant.

Oh, and most importantly; it's very, very funny.
