I'd forgotten to mention Bodyguard, Breaking Away, and Three O'Clock...all very good.

Loved all of them, but especially My Bodyguard.

My choice:

Local Hero

The humor is subtle and whimsical but it is definitely there.

How about Morgan Stewart's Coming Home?

I used to love John Cryer, ever since he was Duckie. I think this movie was his first lead role. Not a great movie, but had funny parts.
