How do you like to watch your movies, DVD, Blu-ray, or maybe you like to watch on VHS, TV, or Laserdisc. I personally love blu-rays because of better picture and sound. I don't know why but I also have a fascination with laserdiscs...go figure.
I voted DVD mostly because that's really my only option right now. I watch movies on my desktop. My laptop has a BlueRay player, but I don't own any. I don't have a TV and I never liked VCRs, so obviously those two options are out. Don't really have an opinion of Laserdiscs, and I'm not sure my internet connection's reliable enough for torrents.
I'm still old school for my movies. We still like to watch movies on our TV (either broadcast or using TV as a monitor).
What we don't do anymore is go "to the movies" at a theater. We like to be comfortable, save money, and have a kitchen full of goodies when we settle in for a flix.
Streaming from Hulu, Amazon, bootleg, other. I watched Act of Valor this morning for 99cents/48 hours (HD for $1.99). And like Granpa, I don't go to those big screen out houses anymore.
TV was free because it was paid 4 by commercials…So why pay for TV (cable etc.) & still have to watch commercials, censored programs & spend 3 hours to watch a butchered 1 1/2 hr show? I’ve found ‘pay per download’ sites to scambastic nightmares with painfully poor selection & streaming is problematic, low quality, you have limited control & still have commercials.
I’m an IT pro & I download movies, shows everything to my pc (hard drive stored MP4 AVI etc.) & output programs to a TV set. Anything that’s on TV is available online. Also a pc’s hard drive can access or play the movie faster than the pc’s DVD unit.
I used to be bit torrent intolerant but now they’re much easier to use & I can download a movie in 5 to 10 min., watch it when I want, pause it as needed or if I didn’t hear something I can back it up.
I can get new movie releases (“cam rip” or pre-release award consideration dvd rips) within days of, or before, the U.S. release dates. DVD rips are available about 1 or 2 months before their release date. I don’t like using p2p sharing & I want to pay but the industry won’t offer the available technology.
Gee you can’t tell I’m a little passionate about this subject can you?
Sorry about the tirade
At the cinema would be my prefered option, I like the atmosphere and sense of expectation at my local Arthouse Picture House. Otherwise on TV or DVD.
Blue RAy, HD, 3D does nothing for me, the vast majority of films I like are not about eyewateringly expensive special effects so it really makes no difference to me whether they are in "normal" format or not. I have seen films on a $10000 TV before and I must admit it looked exactly the same to me as my $500 TV....
Blu-ray of course. I have a 42-inch Vizio flatscreen which is nothing to brag about but I am very happy with it because it has fantastic picture quality. I also have a basic home-theater system which makes it fun when sound quality matters. I lie on my Lay-Z boy with some spicy beef lo mein and an ice-cold beer and enjoy my movies with the lights turned off !!
