Help with movie title: obscure sci-fi flick
I can't nail this one down...A scientific research team working in a house. The team slowly realizes they are all having the same dream every night & eventually figure out that its a message or warning that they are transmitting to themselves from the future. The dream is like a video of the outside of the house with a static noisy voice in the background. That is all I remember except the movie went relatively unnoticed but I was impressed by the basic plot idea & the style or technique that gives the movie a certain "feel" (in relation to the vague ellusive nature of dreams). I saw it on tv but just can't remember when maybe mid 70's to late 80's

I'm not sure if that's a joke, sarcasm or a really bad quess but this movie is older, not a comedy & after researching this for more than 4 or 5 hours online I thinks it's safe to say this movie is NOT popular, it came & went with very little public notice

Does this sound familiar?
The Stone Tape is a television play directed by Peter Sasdy and starring Michael Bryant, Jane Asher, Michael Bates and Iain Cuthbertson. It was broadcast on BBC Two as a Christmas ghost story in 1972. Combining aspects of science fiction and horror, the story concerns a team of scientists who move into their new research facility, a renovated Victorian mansion that has a reputation for being haunted. Investigating, they learn that the haunting is a recording of a past event stored by the stone in one of the rooms of the house – the "stone tape" of the play's title. Believing that this may be the key to the development of a new recording medium, they throw all their expertise and high-tech equipment into learning how the stone tape preserves its recording. However, their investigations serve only to unleash a darker, more malevolent force.

Prince of Darkness by John Carpenter? The team was receiving transmissions about the future. They had discovered a container housing the remnants of the Anti-God. The father of The devil.
Good movie!

I also vote Prince of Darkness. They're in a church, not a house. Half of the group were grad students in some discipline of Physics. The other half had their own specialties, like Latin, Radiology, and Microbiology. There's a lot of sprouting water/liquid. Alice Cooper is one of the homeless, possessed people. Is that the one?
The movie was a great idea in concept, very creepy, and has a very interesting set up, but the last third of the movie completely falls apart. I rather liked seeing who the person in the shadows during the transmission turned out to be.
I don't know how obscure this movie would be considered. I still remember the commercials before it came out, especially the scene of drops of liquid leaving a woman's mouth.

THANK YOU Just downloaded Prince of darkness That's the one...I'm not that big a fan of that type of movie but I really liked the dream message scenes (we are uable to transmit through conscious neural interference etc.) and I noticed the asian researcher is the Kurt Russel side kick guy (Wang) in Big Trouble in Little China (& the old asian guy). TX again for everyone's help...Now if I could remember that weird movie I saw as a child with the old women who lived in the forest in a tree or tree house that had legs (the tree) and could walk

Glad you found the right one. Little tidbit. The scene where wang walks away from the scientist and the scientist looks confused was not scripted. It's the part in the film where they are setting up the equipment in the beginning.
Evil, A sentient liquid, Mysterious transmissions and killer hobos. What more could you ask for in a movie?
