Question Tickets not available at all? No way - no how?

Hello. If a movie theater shows that there are no available tickets for online purchase, does that mean that you also cannot buy a ticket in person at the theater?

I want to see the Rise of the Dark Knight for $6.00, and when I check the show times for this evening, movietickets.com says that there are no more 6:40 p.m. tickets left for online purchase.

When I call the theater, they have an automated voice that gives a run down of the movies to be shown. I can't get through to a live person.

Rush hour won't be over in my area when I need to leave for the show, so I would rather not fumble around with tackling DC rush hour traffic if the show is completely sold out.

Anyone know anything about this? This is the first time that I have ever encountered seeing a movie as already sold out, and I don't know if they mean sold out for online purchases only or if they mean every available ticket for that show has been sold already.

Thanks.

It depends on the theatre. Back when Moviephone was the only game in town, only a percentage of the seating was sold through it. Some of my customers limit online sales and leave some seats open for walk-ups. The circuits will generally have the same policies at all locations in an area, and a call to the corporate office and query to the operations dept or booker can usually get your question answered.

Sometimes, but not always, the very tail end of the answering message will have a live number for the theatre.

I found that whether it be movie tickets or concert tickets, I'll get a "sold out" message but when I deal directly with the theater or venue, they really aren't "sold out". Often times, these online ticket vendors only have a limited amount of tickets so it's possible that they've "sold out" their supply, but not necessarily that the event itself is sold out.

There are many times when I look up a movie I can't find the show time hours for that same day and I'll only see show times for the next day or anything thereafter.

Also, with buying tickets online there's an added fee of up to $3 per ticket (that I've seen so far). The only thing you save is not spending time in line at the theater to buy tickets. I also found that the "preferred" showtimes or popular showtimes aren't offered online either.
