What a precious, dear movie. If at all possible, please go see this in a theater, along with your love interest. You'll be moved; possibly changed. I know we were.
Streep and Jones turn in brilliant performances, a great sound track and wonderful story line = movie magic.
The acting is good, but I thought it a little boring. Don't hit me! It wasn't a bad movie; I just thought that if the people are boring, the viewers aren't that interested.
'Course I won't hit you! Funny how we all have differering viewpoints. I was completely captivated by the two principal characters--even though, at times, their hang-ups were difficult to watch without squirming. Found them to be not sugar-coated, but honest and sometimes, it was like being too close to the action...
Mr. Jones and Ms.Streep delivered dynamite performances. Will be curious to see if Oscars are forthcoming.
There is another movie with a different plot named HOPE SPRINGS from 2003 that it worth seeing. It stars Colin Firth, Heather Graham, Minnie Driver, Mary Steenbergen, Oliver Platt, and Frank Collison. It is quirky and funny with great performances and it takes place in Maine, which added to its charm.
(I wonder why they chose to reuse the title on a different movie.)

Reason: typo
It could have been a better movie - the sex scenes and attempted sex scenes were completely unnecessary - I was actually embarrassed for Streep - the theater scene was ridiculous and degrading - those scenes ruined the movie for me.
