Zombie movies...what are the best ones? (theater, action, drama)

What are the best movies where the dead come back alive?

I have not seen any that I thought were particularly good.

The Walking Dead (a series on Sunday nights-AMC) is good.

There are also many good zombie books.

Since zombies have become a popular genre I think we will be seeing some good movies in the near future.

- Zombie Honeymoon
- Dead Snow

There are different categories of zombie movies - including funny, 'serious', scary, cheesy, etc. Is there are a certain type of zombie movie that you want?

For funny/lighter zombie movies my first thought was Fido. Turco, you might also like Black Sheep - check it out (zombie sheep).

Im not really a fan of the older ones like night of the living dead. And yes The walking Dead tv show is worth watching.

In that case, for now I'd go with the following...

Night of the Living Dead - because it's such a classic
Day of the Dead - also Romero - his favorite of his own
Dawn of the Dead - yikes, gore

Also, although there's all sorts of "those aren't zombies" debates...

28 Days Later (and 28 Weeks Later is sequel)

Like the others said, The Walking Dead on AMC is a current zombie drama series and worth a look.

this is a good list the only add that I can think of is Grindhouse theater presents Planet terror

this was the 1st movie of a double feature that was in part a spoof of 70's movies. great action mixed with some really funny spots
