Shows or movies I've watched so far on netflix and I like are:
Family stuff:
Wonder Years, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Labyrinth, Arabian Nights
Action/Drama: The Double, Assassination Games, Get the Gringo, Ip Man 1 &2, The Man from Nowhere, Equilibrium, Gungrave, The Warlords, No Mercy, Last of the Mohicans, Red Cliff, 13 Assassins, Ichi, ARN: The Knight Templar, Quest for Fire, The Sicilian Girl.
Comedy: That 70s show. The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour. Russell Peters. All the Jackie Chan Movies.
Sci-Fi: Star Trek, Voyager. Battle Star Galactica.
I do love me some Netflix though. I watch something on Netflix nearly every day.
I mostly watch BBC and Masterpiece Theater series and that sort of thing. This year I watched all of The Tudors, Bramwell, The Forsyte Saga, Doc Martin, and am now watching Foyle's War.
I throw in a movie or two now and then. This week I watched Sherry Baby (pretty good story about a young mother and recovering drug addict trying to become responsible enough to regain custody of her daughter), Machine Gun Preacher (got so so reviews but I thought it was very interesting), and In the Land of Blood and Honey (excellent movie about the siege of Sarajevo).
Depressing & gritty, but a great movie about her triumph of the spirit against all odds. And an exceptional performance by Jennifer Lawrence. I'm going to watch Machine Gun Preacher. Based on a true story.
We do Hulu and Netflix instead of cable. Last night I watched "Memorial Day". It put me in a few tears at the end. Gave it 5 stars. It touched me as a Military Veteran.
I also keep "The Man from Earth" in the instant cue.
Edit: Another that I know was on was the tv mini series "Shaka Zulu". Loved it. I wish they would get the old mini series "Shogun" and tv series "Space 1999" on.
An Iranian move called The Deserted Station. It deals largely with the cultural differences between a cosmopolitan couple from Tehran and the inhabitants of a small rural makeshift village. It's slow-moving in a positive and atmospheric way. Above all, it goes well to show that people who are routinely demonized in this country, are really just people who experience the same kinds of human realities common to us all.
This weekend I watched Monsieur Lazhar, which was nominated for an Oscar last year. It's about an Algerian immigrant in Montreal who is a substitute teacher.
A week before the series ended I discovered Flashpoint so I am deep into that. That show is absolutely phenomenal. It is one of a few shows where every episode feels like a feature movie.
If you have have a desire the check it out, the episode "Last Dance" is probably top 5 best acted anything I have ever seen.
i love scary movies. usually i look for zombie movies on netflix.
