I go fairly often - more than I used to when I was younger. I'm in Los Angeles and mostly see movies at a great old theater (85 years +) called The Vista. It has a big screen, digital sound and now digital projection. The owner maintains it very well and the prices are great: $9.50 for general admission, $6.50 for matinees (everyday) and $5.50 for seniors and children under 12.
The seating is unique - there is about 5 feet between rows which is a holdover from when they removed every other row of seats in the early 90's. You never have to worry about some idiot putting their feet on your seatback and egress is great!
The same owner has a small triplex in the Los Feliz area of LA called the Los Feliz 3. It has one large main auditorium and two small viewing rooms. Same prices apply and is very popular, especailly among the locals.
I also go to Graumanns Chinese Theater and on occasion the Arclight (the original Cinerama Dome only, thank you!) and resort to Edwards Theaters when all else fails. I buy coffee at the Vista and Los Feliz 3 but nothing that the other places. Have to say, the snacks at the Vista and LF 3 are expensive but the owner has to make money somewhere!
The same owner restored a theater (took 10 years!) on Coronado Island by San Diego called The Village Theater. It's a triplex too, same prices and is a treat to visit.
Never theater hop as watching one film at a time is enough anyway.

Do you go more or less often to the movies than you used to?
I go a lot less than I used to. The cost is a bit high and the theaters aren't as easy to get to here in Murrieta (I don't drive and the buses suck.)
Do you usually buy concession stand food, sneak in food from the outside, etc.?
I usually sneak food in. The theaters usually charge two to three times what my local market will.
Do you prefer certain theatres, such as AMC, Regal, Cinemark, or other brands?
No preference.
Any other comments?
It's hard to justify paying full price for a movie these days, especially when you can wait a few months and BUY the movie for a couple bucks more than admission.

Since I bought a high definition large screen TV with a quality sound system, I don't go to the theater nearly as often. I can get a good movie viewing experience at home. I still go for the big action or sci-fi/fantasy movies, but for dramas or comedies I wait until it comes out on blu-ray.

It costs $11.00 to see a movie at my local theater. If a couple goes an average of once a week, that's $1,144 per year, not including the trips to the snack bar or gas money.

At that rate, you can pay for a very nice home theater in less than a year. Two if you want a really big screen.

Personally, there aren't enough must-see movies (good or bad) to average 1 movie a week.

About the same. I typically go to the movies once or twice a week. Almost always during work hours on a weekday when I practically have the theater to myself. I will rarely go on a Friday or Saturday night for a big premiere.

Do you usually buy concession stand food, sneak in food from the outside, etc.?

I am on a diet so I will try to eat something healthy before the movie, and then I will buy a drink in the theater.

Do you prefer certain theatres, such as AMC, Regal, Cinemark, or other brands?

I prefer Cinemark theaters, AMC theaters are fine, and I see tons of movies in IMAX. I love the IMAX screen and the sound is amazing.

I go about the same - which is pretty often. I tend to sit toward the front, partly because it tends to be less crowded, partly because there are fewer distractions.

I've been going to AMC because they have cheap matinees in New York, but otherwise I'm indifferent to the chains per se. There are two chains, though, that have good indie theaters here - City Cinema owns the Angelika and Landmark owns Sunshine, I think.

I sneak in outside food. In an effort to be considerate, if I expect the movie to be crowded, I don't bring anything too fragrant or too noisy.

I never went once/week. But I do find myself watching more movies at home than I used to. I have a fairly nice home theater setup (although with a small 55" screen). I've recently found that it's more comforting to watch movies at home than with a crowd of obnoxious people (there's always a few in the theater). Maybe it's coming with age.

Even if you only go every once in a while (like most people) you should still treat yourself to a movie! The big screen experience is worth it almost every time in my opinion.
