Recent movie: Baby Driver. This movie was nominated for a Grammy for it's soundtrack.

I love Vangelis - they always deliver. My favorite movie featuring Vangelis is The Bounty - which is a great movie anyway but wow, that soundtrack was the crowning touch.

John Murphy is my personal favorite (Sunshine's Surface of the Sun has got to be one of the most gorgeous themes I have ever heard)

Steve Jablonsky is another personal favorite (did Transformers)

John Williams. E.T. Enough said.

Hans Zimmer, Thelma and Louise

Zimmer has gone on record saying he feels that's his best work. I agree wholeheartedly.

His score is amazing, as is the soundtrack. The scene where they drive though the desert at night with the Marianne Faithful "At the age of 37....", one of my favorite scenes of any movie, ever.

The Bounty, is a very good film, and Vangelis did an exceptional score. The end credits is perhaps his best track of all imo

Others have already mentioned some of the musical scores that I think are the best and which I'll repeat;

Medicine Man
Out of Africa
Dances with Wolves
Last of the Mohicans
Somewhere in Time

To that I will add Hatari!
