I agree that Zimmer is great. I love his score for "The Thin Red Line" however, my favorite score of all time is "Legends of the Fall" by James Horner.

Honorable mentions:
Titanic (James Horner)
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (Randy Edelman)
Passion of the Christ (John Debney)
Assassination of Jesse James (Nick Cave/Warren Ellis)

Off the top of my head.. Silence of the Lambs.

Not a traditional score, but Natural Born Killers utilized a good collection of 9os rock/alternative tracks thru the movie.

Flash Gordon also had a cool rock score..

I love all of the films scored by American composer Philip Glass, specifically...

Qatsi trilogy:
Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance (1982)
Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation (1988)
Naqoyqatsi: Life as War (2002)

The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara (2003)
