Does anyone believe in good wholesome family entertainment? Wholesome family movies seem to be rare these days! Even some animated films have age restrictions on them. What is up with that?

I was thinking that yesterday. License to Drive was on and I watched it with my mom, my cousin (14) and my son (7). Because it was on cable they edited out the few curse words but while we were watching I was trying to think of a current movie that all of us had watched together that we all enjoyed. I couldn't think of one. Either we're watching kids movies for my son that I find cute but my cousin is bored (even when the movie is good she's bored because it's a "kid movie") or we're watching movies that are too adult and have to wait for them to go to bed.

I had to block ABC Family from the TV in my son's bedroom because they all these shows with teenagers running around yelling "******" and having sex every two seconds. It's frustrating

Ah! Someone with values! I was beginning to wonder if people just turned a blind eye toward the content in movies. If movie Directors had any consideration for families then families would have a lot more to choose from. But not only that children are the future how much better this world would be if they were brought up with wholesome values! And I think that movies have a big influence on the young ones! I really feel sorry for today's parents!

I honestly don't know what happened to family programming like the syrupy TGIF line-up. No current versions of family shows like Full House or tween shows like Saved By The Bell. Nick had a pretty decent show with iCarly but once they got older almost every episode focused on dating and kissing.

I remember all those programs. I can remember thinking to my self at the time (having two sons and a daughter at home then) that the content of each show had a valuable lesson for the families that were watching them. In those days the lessons steered the children in a wise direction. But of coarse we have to be realistic that times have changed drastically. We are living in a time that focuses on ... as you put it "dating and kissing".

Um, Saved by the Bell was nothing but dating and kissing.

I admittedly don't know much children's entertainment since 2004 or so when my little brother outgrew it. You know what kids show had a good philosophy? Hey Arnold. It was very streetwise, they'd all run around the city having adventures together, but it was never anything objectionable. (And when it was, he'd learn a lesson from it.) Some cool unique characters too.

Saved by the Bell had a lot of dating and kissing but some of the best episodes (before the Zack-Kelly romance took off) they were just silly kids doing silly kid things. And although they pulled pranks I can't remember a single episode where one of them actually mouthed off to a teacher/principal or parent. Also the kissing on Saved By the Bell was just kissing...the kissing on the teens shows now is kissing right before you have sex (specifically the shows on ABC Family channel). On Saved By The Bell or Boy Meets World whenever someone kissed there was that "ooohhhhhhh!" from the audience..when kids kiss now they start playing the sexy music in the background. It's like soft porn.

I agree with you; I LOVED Hey Arnold. I recently watched the whole series on Netflix. I liked Doug too and Rugrats. That's when Nick was pretty awesome

Do I believe family movies exist? Or do I believe they should exist? Or do I believe there should be more of them? Or do I believe people should make a point of seeking them out? Or do I believe the term is even meaningful any more?

For me, "wholesome" is usually a code word implying timid, bland, and boring.

Hey Arnold was a great show! Last summer they would show a bunch of those olds Nick shows after midnight, I hope they do it again this summer.
