Netflix is the reason I found this gem (documentary, actors, director)

I only have a DVD player in my laptop, and I don't use that. Besides, I like to tape movies. You have to buy a DVD player then another piece of equipment to tape. Then, you can tape just once on a disk! I love my VCR! I have tapes that are from the Seventies, and they still play beautifully. The only problem sometimes is that some that were taped on one machine sometimes need some tracking. Words such as "streaming" and "downloading" make me very nervous. And, I don't trust mailing things back and forth. I try to support the Postal Service by penpalling, but all of us have had letters to and from go missing and never show up. With penfriends, we know that happens, as much as we hate it. But, if a movie is lost, who are they going to blame?
I'm not trying to convince you of anything and I understand that you are happy with what your current movie options are, but I just wanted to comment on this for clarification. I've had Netflix movies end up lost in the mail a couple times in the years when I used to receive DVDs in the mail. Once in transit to me and once in transit back to Netflix. Both times I just filed a "lost item" report and that was the end of it. They didn't' try and charge me or anything. I'm sure they are counting on a certain percentage of loss due to postal service mishaps.

Agreed, back when I had netflix's full services, they even claimed an envelope I returned arrived empty. Ridiculous - and I never paid a dime for lost, cracked, or broken DVDs - I just filled out the questionnaire online and that was it.
So I finally watched the movie Irreversible with Monica Belluci. Very graphic movie that is hard to watch, and not for the violence, rampant exposed genitals, or even the rape scene which is shown for its painful entirety. No, it was difficult to watch because apparently the director thought it would be a terrific idea to constantly spin the camera repeatedly 360 degrees, over and over.
I'll be moving on to another recommendation - a friend of mine is really loving Orange is the New Black. Anyone else seen that one?
I enjoyed Orange is the New Black. I'm very choosy about what I watch and if, in the first 15 minutes, I'm not hooked, I turn it off. I did like that series though and am looking forward to next season.
Thanks for the heads up about Irreversible with Monica Belluci. I'll pass on that one. Not into violence or rape scenes, no matter how intrinsic they are to the movie.
netflix rocks! I should have joined years ago. i love how you can click on an actor's link and see all of the movies they made (that netflix carries), or directors, etc. i quickly found the 500 disc limit for my queue, and also that the dvds that you can "save" (not currently available) bump up to your list as they are released / as they gain the rights to them (i guess), so i keep my queue south fo 500, oh, say at 495.
the post office must scan the incoming dvd envelopes for netflix (i always make sure to insert the dvd sleeve so that the bar code is showing) as once they receive the dvd (next day after i ship), it takes 1 day for them to get me another movie. i never got letters in 1 day!
e.g. found out mud (2012) and to the wonder (2012) were to be released on netflix 8/6/13, and they did bump up to my queue. mud was fantastic at the theater (i need to watch it again on dvd) but i missed the limited release of terrance malick's to the wonder.

I just watched The Fall. Series, not a movie. Gillian Anderson as the lead investigator in a serial murder situation and she is GREAT, just like she was years ago on X-files. I binge watched all six episodes yesterday.

Yes, that was a really good series and Gillian Anderson was great in it. I loved her character!!!
If you're interested Sally, there's a thread on CD Anbody Watching The Fall On Netflix? where I posted this:
After watching the first episode I had to look up Gillian Anderson's bio because her accent sounded so real to me. As it turns out she is bidialectal meaning she is proficient in using two dialects of the same language. Born in the US, her family moved to the UK when she was 15 months old and stayed until she was 11 years old, before moving back to the US. Anyway, her accent is real and she can sound American just as easily. Anyway, I just thought that was cool and thought I'd share. ~geebabe

Also, there will be a second season with five more episodes; however, it won't enter production until January 2014. Plus Gillian Anderson will be one of the executive producers.
