With Pacific Rim not yet officially released, A "Mockbuster" called Atlantic rim is already out. I was curious about how these are released legally. The company that made this, Asylum pictures if somewhat famous for these blatantly copycat films. They are are usually poorly made and are unintentionally funny but I am interested in the legalities of being able to release these. Anyone have insight or info?

There was an Entertainment Weekly article about these earlier this year: Attack of the Clones! | EW.com

Sometimes they pop up on Netflix streaming and confuse me for a second.
