The Good:

Eva Green's performance of Artemisia as Femme Fatal is outstanding. And not to be crude here, but yes, she shows 'em and they are spectacular.

The action is even more fun than the first because it is dealing with the straights of Artemisium and Salamis, and the entire navel aspect is very fun and lends itself to the digital effects.

The Bad:

I don't know the name of the actors but the guy who plays Themistocles is not as good as the guy who played Leonidas.

Probably because they are going to do a third movie...this one just kind of ends abruptly in a way that left people confused.

The Ugly:

Even less respect for the actual history than the first movie.

SPOILER ALERT, SPOILER ALERT, SPOLIER ALERT:

None of the things that we actually know about Artemisia are in this movie. Her most famous exploit of ramming her own ship to get away is absent. At no time does Xerses give his famous quote: "These Greeks turn my women into generals and my generals into women..."

I understand this isn't a documentary so Hollywood needs to sell a good & bad story, but geez how bias. The light shined thru the clouds for Greeks while Persian skys were dark. Both sides had slaves, no reason to sugarcoat the Greeks.

Wait, you are saying Hollywood is milking yet another movie that had done well?

This is a definite RedBox/Netflix candidate for me.

I rented Hunger Games - Catching Fire and Thor - Dark World a few days back, and I couldn't believe how overrated, over-hyped both movies were.

There really is nothing good coming out of Hollywood these days. Maybe it is time for it to collapse and start over.

I agree with much of your assessment especially about the Themistocles part vs Leonidas.

Hmmm on another note, I hadn't any idea people actually think of looking to this movie for anything even remotely factual, for me this venue only registers on the level of the other fantasy spectaculars like Thor, Hercules, Jason and the Argonauts and such, but guess I can't fault others if they are searching for something other in it. I imagine they may throw in something that resembles figments of the past, but I never thought of looking to this type of production for factual depictions. This is made to visually satiate as far as I can tell. No other rhyme or reason, just a visual feast for some into the assault on the senses to some degree.

I watched it in 3D which is nice. But maybe I should have gone to IMAX because it didn't blow me away, except for a few scenes.

This is a lot of people's take on it and that is fine, but as these movies are the only thing that are going to lead some people to history, it is nice when they have some facts. I actually thought that the first had a nice balance, using quotes from history that sound like movie lines, but were indeed real and quoted by Plutarch: ("then we shall have our battle in the shade...only Spartan women give birth to real men.")

The second in a series is almost NEVER as good as the first. Taken was a pretty good movie.........Taken 2, pretty stinky.

True. But Godfather II was better than the Godfather.

Actually, movie lore is that the third always stinks.

Godfather II was better...Godfather III was a dud.

Empire Strikes Back was arguably better, Return of the Jedi featured fighting teddy bears.

Roger Ebert Said Spiderman II would have been a great movie even if it had no superheros, Spiderman three was a package.
