The electric wheelchair chase scene in Mel Brook's "Silent Movie."
As with karen_in_nh, I find car chase scenes to be tedious, I typically fast forward through them when possible. The only way i can get through one these days is to play a game of anticipation...looking at the road ahead and guessing which things were placed there for the purpose of being smashed. Usually, anything which can be pulverized without disabling a car, will be pulverized. A newspaper stand? Definite goner. Sidewalk cafe? Those tables are going to be flying. Wooden road block barriers? Always doomed.
I fully expect to see several movies on here that I have never heard of before, this is the first. Will be investigating more as they come. Without giving too much away, can you explain what made it so good?
It's a guy after the girls for starters, and one of the girls is on the car hood when he finds them. The woman actress is an actual stuntwoman, so she is really doing this. There are more reasons but will not say as it gives too much away.
BTW, for the guys, the girls are hot
Best car chase scene ever is the one where Principle Rooney tried to put his car key in the door as it is being towed and it takes off and he chases it down the street. -Ferris Bueller
LOL! The scene was hilarious, as was the entire movie. And then there is a car chase scene in the end with Ferris' sister, Jeanie runs a stop sign and runs from the cops for a little bit to try to beat her brother home.
"Best" being a subjective term, Bullitt (1968) and To Live and Die in LA (1986) both have two the best car chase scenes in film history. Ronin (1998) and an obscure film called Seven Ups (1973) starring Roy Scheider are close behind those two.

I'm not into car chases as such, but Bullitt has me watching it every time it comes on TV! I'll watch it just like I watch the chariot race in Ben Hur, I don't care how many times I've seen it, I must watch it! One time we were in San Francisco we took a cab, and the cab driver happened to be a Bullitt fan. He took us down every single street of the car chase! Fortunately at a somewhat slower speed . I want a green Mustang GT 390 Fastback...
One of the best I have ever seen. I saw that movie at least twice if not more.
