I'm surprised you didn't say Breakfast at Tiffany's, considering your user name! That's one of my favorites, and it's funny you mentioned Party Girl too - wouldn't say it is my favorite movie, but as a librarian, I had to love it! Most movies, books, etc., portray us (librarians) as dowdy old women, so that was a nice change from the stereotype.
Oh, and I voted for Secret of My Success in the poll, just because I didn't feel like thinking of another one... that is a great movie, and definitely represented NYC in that time period. Another would be Working Girl, which was somewhat ridiculous, but fairly accurate in it's portrayal of the '80s "working gal" culture & style.
City of Angels? wasn't that NY? I saw it once a long time ago and don't remember.
That's a great movie, but it takes place in Los Angeles (and Lake Tahoe at the end)... hence "City of Angels," which is the nick-name for the city of L.A. - Los Angeles means The Angels. The ending scenes were actually taped where I used to live, right down the street from my house in South Lake Tahoe. Wish I could've caught up with Nick Cage during the filming - he's a babe!!
Thanks Gizmo, I had a Meg Ryan mix-up You've got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle... I saw the movie once a while back and didn't pay much attention to the scenery. I should rent it to refresh my memory

Ahh, you beat me to it! When I saw the thread title I was betting that nobody was mention this one. Great, weird little movie. The scene where he couldn't get on the subway because the fare just went up strikes home with any New Yorker! Whatever happened to Griffin Dunne anyway?
And speaking of After Hours (and Rosanna Arquette), how about "Desperately Seeking Susan"?
I know every line by heart.
It is smartly written, witty, and sweet.
The scenery and love of the characters for their city
makes even a non-New Yorker like me, feel a part of it.
