Some movies just stay with you, and not in an altogether pleasant way. Brilliantly made, but disturbing. I'll start the list with:
Schindler's List: Stunning movie, but emotionally draining.
Saving Private Ryan: I don't think I could watch the D Day scene again.
Apocolypse Now: A truly disturbing movie.
The Godfather: The horse head scene freaked me out.
I'll go with the movie "Glory" with Matthew Broderick. Great, great film.
However, towards the last of the movie is a scene where the Broderick character (playing a colonel) is readying his troops to charge the fort. They are on the beach, and the colonel looks out at the waves, the birds flying, the clouds, realizing that he has literally reached his last moments on earth, since he knows he is leading his men on a suicide mission. He then walks through his cheering regiment, to take his place at the very head of the charge. A very affecting scene. So much so, that I have never watched the movie again.
I had panic attacks from when they were walking through the street market up to when the CIA got confirmation that the plane took off and they cleared. I felt like my heart was going to explode through my chest.
Now that I think about it, I can't watch Taken again. I had the same anxiety and panic attacks and having a daughter myself just make the feelings even more overwhelming.
I have "Sideways" on DVD. I watch it whenever I feel like relaxing with a bottle of Merlot!!!
