I too really liked the special effects, but hated several things about it:

Spoiler
1)Brian Cranston dying
2) That his son, (Ford Brody) was highlighted as the 'hero' throughout the movie, but if you think back, he didn't do a single thing to help, (except for the generic Save the Kid on the Subway Car).

3) Big G was portrayed as some super-sized, prehistoric lump, who sleeps until he hears food a'walkin, goes and kills them, (but doesn't eat them), and then heads back to resume his eons-nap. WTF??

I walk into these types of movies expecting to have to suspend some of my logic and just enjoy the F/X, but this one didn't even have any Comic Book fun to it.

Lol, well I was in no way surprised that the acting sucked. The acting always sucks in a big budget movie. I don't watch big budget for the acting or even storyline, I watch it for the special effects. And I really enjoyed the CGI in "Godzilla". Usually CGI can get on my nerves but I was pleased with this one. I will agree with you that it took way too long for Godzilla to show up.

It was by no means a great movie, but I enjoyed it for what it was: A big budget monster flick that tried to keep at least one foot planted in plausibility.

The story's biggest flaw is that it spent most of its time concentrating on the least interesting characters. This movie should have been Bryan Cranston vs. Godzilla. That said, I'm sure I'll be standing in line to see the sequel.

I was disappointed that Godzilla had only minimum screen time.
