Dragon, who is David Gale?
|
The movie's called The Life of David Gale, and is about him, he's a professor in Texas who's accused of murder and sentenced to death. Its a great movie and the cast is great as well (Kevin Spacey, Kate Winslett) but its very sad.

Schlinder's List
A very powerful movie, well done, great acting. I'm glad I saw it, but could never sit through it again.

Not a fan of Schindler's list per se, I thought Ralph Fiennes performance was one of the best in film, however. I think the best holocaust movie is the Pianist. Can't sit through that one again either.

The Pianist was a pretty good movie. I'm an Adrian Brody fan and thought he did a terrific job. It just didn't move me the way Schindler's List did. I really don't think I could sit through that movie again.
Does anyone remember a movie called "Holocaust" that was a TV miniseries back in, I think, the 80s? It had an amazing cast - Meryl Streep, James Woods, Rosemary Harris, Ian Holm, and others that I can't remember. It was excellent. I don't know if it was ever released on DVD. Guess I've got an eBay project today!
Back on topic - another film I thought was incredible was "The Elephant Man"
with John Hurt and Anthony Hopkins. It was a David Lynch film. I think that was an 80s movie, too. An amazing movie with a great cast. But it was so dark and so sad that I don't think I could sit through that one again, either. It sure sent me running to the library for information - back in the days before Google.
Domergurl - I love your sig! One of my favorite episodes of NE

I remember watching The Holocaust on tv. It was in 1978 ... I was 11 years old and I still remember it. Truly haunting.
Yes, to the Elephant Man. I also remember a very good tv version too.
Here's one that is bound to shake the webs out. The absolute best, and I mean BEST, nuclear war movie was a BBC television production called Threads ... anyone remember that one? I don't even want it on DVD or VHS or anything, it was that good.
As for the sig: It's my favorite scene in any episodic television show. HDnet runs NE and that is the one episode I keep on my tivo. I fast forward through the entire episode (Burning Down the House btw) and I'll be darned if each time I watch it, I don't laugh my heart out. The other night, I had a really bad day and I turned it on and told the kids that Mommy needs to laugh and it worked! Now my kids want to watch that scene too ... ok, that's kind of syrupy.

Blue Velvet. I loved the movie, but ... no.
The Deer Hunter, Platoon, and almost any other Vietnam War flick.

American History X
Schindler's List
Unforgiven (Great but too long to sit though again)
The Sixth Sense (once you know the ending its just a sort of creepy movie)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Last Samurai
All of the Lord of the Rings movies
Brokeback Mountain

American History X is a great movie as long as I don't watch the end of it.
Edward Norton is incredible in that movie. Great looking too I might add. =D
